Abstract: Preamble In 2008, the NHLBI initiated these guidelines by sponsoring rigorous systematic evidence reviews for each topic by expert panels convened to develop critical questions (CQs), interpret the evidence, and craft recommendations. In response to the 2011 report from the Institute of Medicine on the development of trustworthy clinical guidelines (1), the NHLBI Advisory Council recommended that the NHLBI focus specifically on reviewing the highest-quality evidence and partner with other organizations to deve… Show more

“…Programs and interventions can also vary widely in intensity with some interventions focusing on minimizing in-person contact time to mitigate costs (4-6), which can be anywhere from $739 to $1442 per participant (3). Additionally, the long-term maintenance of these weight losses remains a challenge with average gradual regains of 1 to 2 kgs per year from the weight loss achieved by 6 months (2,7,8). Because of limited long-term success of current programs and interventions, even those conducted by clinical experts, improvements are needed in order to increase effectiveness of these programs.…”

“…In traditional weight management, obesity is often treated as a medicalised condition where treatment predominantly targets the energy balance directly (Jensen et al, 2014). Obesity is now known to be a multifaceted, complex condition and treatment must consider the wider determinants associated with having obesity (Bacon and Aphramor, 2011;Bombak, 2013).…”
