Exfoliation of two-dimensional phosphorene sheets with enhanced photocatalytic activity under simulated sunlight

Abstract: The photodegradation of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) over two-dimensional black phosphorene (2D-BP) nanosheets, which were prepared by an environmental friendly solution exfoliation process, in water was investigated under simulated-sunlight. When coexist with water, oxygen, and light, 2D-BP nanosheets can generate the ROS species of 1 O 2 and O 2 •by energy transfer or charge transfer from excited P* to ground state of oxygen, respectively. The ROS species generation is oxygen dependent and positive related with t… Show more

“…The liquid exfoliation method using deoxygenated water as polar solvent to obtain BP nanosheets is a non-toxic, eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative. 23,43,45 Our results show that by tuning process parameters of the liquid exfoliation method, it is possible to synthesize large surface area and chemically stable few-layer BP nanosheets in the deoxygenated water. Liquid exfoliation process works with compression and rarefaction cycles, where the pressure of rarefaction cycle is more responsible for creating transient microbubbles and collapsing of these bubbles generates the instantaneous heat and high local pressure causing the separation of 2D adjacent layers by overcoming van der Waals interactions.…”

“…20 mg of BP crystals was ground with a mortar and pestle, added to the flask, and sealed immediately and then sonicated for 8 h in an ice bath. The prepared solution contains homogeneous 2D few-layer BP (FLBP) nanosheets or Ph …”

“…The prepared solution contains homogeneous 2D few-layer BP (FLBP) nanosheets or Ph. 40 For the synthesis of rPhQDs, initially, a certain amount of Ph solution (10 mL) was taken in a beaker and to it, EDA was added. This solution of Ph and EDA was then stirred well for about an hour and autoclaved in a hydrothermal reactor chamber for 9 h at a temperature of about 180 °C.…”

“…The prepared solution contained homogeneous 2D few-layer BP (FLBP) nanosheets or phosphorene (Ph). 37 Ph-Cys-Au nanodots were synthesized by adopting a previously reported hydrothermal procedure with a minor modification. 38 Firstly, 20 mL of Ph (0.1 M) and 2 mL of cystine (0.1 M) were mixed in a beaker and stirred for about 30 minutes.…”
