Abstract: Human-Centered Informatics (HCI) is the intersection of the cultural, the social, the cognitive, and the aesthetic with computing and information technology. It encompasses a huge range of issues, theories, technologies, designs, tools, environments and human experiences in knowledge work, recreation and leisure activity, teaching and learning, and the potpourri of everyday life. The series will publish state-of-the-art syntheses, case studies, and tutorials in key areas. It will share the focus of leading int… Show more

“…Moreover, terms such as user experience have been introduced to emphasise the importance of the feelings that users experience as they interact with technological artefacts (Bødker, 2006;Hassenzahl, 2010;Desmet and Hekkert, 2007;Norman, 2004;Wright et al, 2008). Most scholars in the field agree that emotion is one of the main dimensions of user experience (Bargas-Avila and Hornbaek, 2011;Hassenzahl and Tractinsky, 2011;Norman, 2004;Saariluoma and Jokinen, 2014;Thüring and Mahlke, 2007).…”

“…In other words, it is vital to learn directly from citizens. How this can be performed would probably require a lengthy discussion on Human-Computer Interaction techniques, a field moving towards understanding user experience (see for instance [26]), and using "in the wild" strategies [55]. However, this is beyond the scope of the BLM, which is a benchmarking method for the useful comparative evaluation of cities' e-services.…”

“…Hassenzahl [8] and McCarthy and Wright [10] also argue that the emotions that the technology can elicit in its users should be taken into account during early design stages, made explicit, and incorporated in the design itself. This influences how films for design are being produced, for example Mancini et al [9] focus their video on the positive and negative attitudes of the user toward technology and on their consequences, with the purpose of eliciting different reactions and discussions in user groups.…”
