Experience of operating a solar parabolic trough direct steam generation power plant with superheating

Abstract: TSE1 is the first solar thermal power plant operating in Southeast Asia. It was planned by Solarlite GmbH with support of Tiede-& Niemann GmbH, both German based. It is the first power plant with direct steam generation (DSG) concept and superheating in parabolic troughs. The solar field has a nominal power of 19 MW th driving a 5 MW el turbine by superheated steam at 30 bar and 330 °C. During 2010/2011 Solarlite built the solar field, while the later owner and operator Thai Solar Energy (TSE) from Bangkok bui… Show more

“…As this study uses one turbine, its inlet pressure is controlled to avoid lower operation pressures. The MAN power manufacturing business has advised that the lowest turbine inlet pressure should be 0.9 MPa [32,33]. Thus, this turbine's minimum input pressure is set at 0.9 MPa.…”

“…The capacity of TSE-1 is 5 MWe [12]. In the DSG process, the steam parameters are bounded by design limitations of solar field components at high pressure and temperature as well as absorber wall thermal gradients, absorber coatings, and materials cost [9]. The PTSC components need to be designed to withstand the higher temperature and pressure.…”
