“…The reported case represents the first to be reported in literature to use a large (11×22 cm) VMG [6] to reconstruct a composite defect of the abdominal wall. Other pedicled thigh flaps have been used successfully to repair abdominal wall defects, including myocutaneous tensor fascia [4], rectus muscle, myocutaneous or fasciocutaneous anterolateral thigh flaps, myocutaneous sartorius muscle and or subtotal thigh-based chimeric flaps based on the lateral circumflex femoral vessels [3]. Preoperative measurements did not favour the use of anterolateral thigh flaps in this case also the use of local abdominal tissue was not recommended due to its poor quality and the presence of a large supraumbilical incisional hernia.…”

“…A myriad of thigh flaps have been used in reconstructing defects of the abdominal wall, including tensor fasciae lata myocutaneous, rectus femoris muscle, or myocutaneous, ALT fasciocutaneous, and sartorius muscle or myocutaneous flaps (25)(26)(27)(28)(29)(30). However in reality, in the clinical setting, as the defects of the abdominal wall are sometimes too large for one of these flaps, alternatives must be considered to provide reliable reconstruction in a single stage.…”

“…32,33 The tensor fascia lata musculocutanaous flap, on the other hand, is a very useful option for repairing a full-thickness defect of the lower abdominal wall and groin. 34 Its strong fascia can prevent an abdominal hernia when it is used for abdominal closure.…”
