Experiencia de la utilización de la punción ecoguiada en pacientes portadores de nódulos mamarios

Abstract

Objective: To describe the experience achieved by the Surgery Service of the National General Hospital “Dr. Ángel Larralde” in terms of the study of patients with breast nodules, through the use of ultrasound-guided punctures during the period January 2020 – November 2022. Methods: Observational-descriptive study, with a non-experimental, prospective, cross-sectional design. A deliberate nonprobabilistic sample of 138 patients was conducted. Breast ultrasound, fine needle puncture or core needle puncture were performed, depending on the type of lesion. The technique used was correlated with the diagnosis. Results: An average age of 46.72 ± 2.33 years was recorded; Females predominated (91.30%). The most frequent ultrasound finding was nodules in BI-RADS 4-A (30.43%). High percentages of effectiveness were obtained in both puncture techniques: sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value: 100%. There were no complications. Conclusions: The experience developed performing ultrasound-guided punctures in the management of the breast nodule is a useful and feasible method, avoiding unnecessary excisional biopsies, with high sensitivity and specificity, and minimizing the risks of complications inherent to the procedure.
