“…Esta enfermedad es endémica de la provincia China de Guangdong, y aunque la principal característica es el amarillamiento general de las hojas, allí la sintomatología comúnmente fue agrupada en tres tipos: amarillamiento, moteamiento y visualmente similar a la deficiencia de Zinc (Zn) [28] , ver Figura 1 Los síntomas de HLB en hojas pueden confundirse con deficiencias nutricionales o incluso con el daño de plagas y otras enfermedades, sin embargo, presenta características distintivas: diferentes estudios indican que el HLB estructuralmente afecta los tejidos del floema causando problemas para el transporte de nutrientes en las plantas hospederas [29] , esto desencadena la presencia de brotes vegetativos maduros amarillentos con moteado y distribución asimétrica, retraso en el crecimiento de plantas en desarrollo, menores porcentaje de rendimiento, producción de fruta deforme, con pobre coloración, con menos peso y tamaño, la que además puede desprenderse del árbol prematuramente [30] ).…”
