This article discusses how the sociology of emotions in Latin America, a recently established field of knowledge still in the process of institutionalization, first developed between 2000 and 2019. Research in this period focused on six wide-ranging and heterogeneous thematic areas: ( a) social change, sociability and emotions; ( b) social movements and feelings; ( c) gender, generations, affectivity and care; ( d) migration and emotions; ( e) work, affectivity and emotions; and ( f ) theoretical reflections and analytical propositions. Critical evaluation of the field has uncovered three areas of analytical tension that impede its consolidation: disciplinary boundary-setting (sociology, sociology and anthropology of the emotions, philosophy), analytical perspectives (sociological, sociocultural, philosophical), and the object of research (emotions, emotions and the body, the body and emotions), all of which have implications for social research. Sense of place has become relevant in Latin America in recent decades. Although many scholars have looked at people‐place relationships there, language barriers have limited the international exposure of these studies. By assembling a collection of works mainly published in Spanish and Portuguese, we trace the fields of research where the concept has taken root and reflect upon the regional characteristics of sense of place. Overall, this review provides empirical insights into the human experience of place in a culturally diverse region marked by historical injustices, inequalities, and instability. These structures have created specific, often ambivalent senses of place, organized around resistance and adaptation. A more nuanced understanding of sense of place, which emphasizes the richness and complexities of people‐place connections, will help avoid oversimplification and idealization in future theories. To frame our analysis, we investigate sense of place from the perspective of humanistic geography. Overlapping with other non‐representational inquiries, the humanistic lens focuses on human‐environment relationships—encompassing experiences, behaviors, ideas, and feelings—to deepen our understanding of the intricate and multifaceted human condition and the essential role of place in human life. Our review shows that sense of place has proven helpful in shedding light on critical Latin American socio‐spatial phenomena such as mobilities, territorialities, and fear. Regionally, researchers center on marginalized and oppressed senses of place framed by longstanding structural inequalities stemming from a colonial legacy, capitalism, and neoliberalism. We highlight “geographies of terror,” “diabolic places,” and “necroplaces” as powerful categories that address the grim reality in the region.

En este trabajo se presenta la experiencia del Taller México Viene a Casa en la ciudad de Nueva York, una propuesta del Programa Pequeñas y Pequeño Universitarios planteada desde la postura del coprotagonismo, y que se ha desarrollado a partir de los ejes principales de este programa que son el desarrollo humano, la diversidad y la interculturalidad. La estructura del artículo está definida a partir de mostrar el contexto donde se desarrollan los talleres, así como los planteamientos teóricos y metodológicos que le dieron origen a esta propuesta y guían la forma de trabajo de los talleres, para finalmente mostrar las experiencias que se han tenido con la comunidad de la Ciudad de Nueva York, donde niñas, niños, familias y organizaciones migrantes han participado de manera cercana con este proyecto.
