Experiment and Prediction of Ablation Depth in Excimer Laser Micromachining of Optical Polymer Waveguides

Abstract: Extending the data transfer rates through dense interconnections at inter-and intraboard levels is a well-established technique especially in consumer electronics at the expense of more cross talk, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and power dissipation. Optical transmission using optical fibre is practically immune to the aforementioned factors. Among the manufacturing methods, UV laser ablation using an excimer laser has been repeatedly demonstrated as a suitable technique to fabricate multimode polymer wa… Show more

“…In view of this, laser micromachining offers some crucial benefit over other more-established micro-fabrication methods due to its low-cost operation and rapid fabrication [4]- [6]. Suriano et al [7] performed a thorough study of the properties of femtosecond laser-ablated polymer surfaces for microfluidic channel fabrication.…”

“…However, predicting the behavior of cooking oil in different engines and working environments is not an easy task. One important aspect is the use of prediction models especially at the planning stage to assess the behavior of tribological applications in finding suitable parametric ranges for better performance [12][13][14]. This approach can mitigate the assessment process complexities with lesser rejections and errors.…”
