Severe surface Plastic deformation plays a vital role in materials and several investigations are made on this route. Though, the influence of stacking fault energy of materials on severe surface plastic deformation is not done yet. This investigation studied the optimization of process parameter of SMTP with varying stacking fault energies on wear characteristics of AA6061 and ETP-Copper materials. Also, this investigation on reduction in the stacking fault energy contributes wear characterization were determined. The process parameters such as size of shots, speed of revolution of shaft and duration of treatment chosen which are directly associated to the energy imparted to the surface to induce high strains, accumulation of dislocations and grain refinement that leads to enhancement in strength of material surface. The predicted optimal vales of AA6061 are 4 mm shots, 750 rpm speed of revolution and 45 min duration and ETP-Copper are 4 mm shots, 500 rpm speed of revolution and 60 min duration. The wear volume loss of AA6061, a wear volume loss of 14.5854 × 10 −5 cm 3 is found, which 58% is lower than the wear volume loss of the untreated sample. The wear volume loss of ETP-Copper is 9.5366 × 10 −5 cm 3 , which is 58% lower than the wear volume loss of the untreated sample.

This work investigates the effect of different parameters of a static wavy flag vortex generator on the heat transfer in a rectangular channel using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis. This work encompasses optimizing several parameters of a flag such as flag height from the surface, position in the channel, number of triangular shapes in a flag, and rectangular surface area of the flag. Post analysis results exhibit encouraging results with average Nusselt number in flag height (FH) optimization exceeding that in no flag condition by 41.84%, 47.79%, 54.68% for Re 8236, 12354, and 18344, respectively whereas further position optimization of FH optimized flag exceeds average Nusselt number in no flag condition by 46.86%, 70.68% and 87.26% for the corresponding Re. With significantly less practical application of flags for heat transfer enhancement in industry, this work aims to establish flags as an effective heat transfer enhancement device and demonstrate that with the right optimized parameters, a significant increase of heat transfer in the channel can be achieved.

As AA 7075 T651 comprehensively is used in the marine naval vessels, the factor of corrosion performance always plays a significant role. In this work, an investigation is carried out to study the effect of corrosion behavior of shot peened AA 7075 T651 in 3.5% solution. From the potentio-dynamic polarization study, a 27.72% decrease is ascertained in the Icorr in shot peened specimen in correlation to unpeened aluminium alloy. A drop in Icorr from 1.883 to 1.480 mA cm−2 in shot peened specimen, indicates enhanced pitting corrosion resistance. An electrochemical impedance spectroscopy reveals a surge in the oxide layer formation on the peened surface aiding the drop in corrosion rate. Resistance to pit formations and improvement in oxygen deposition in the peened specimen is observed availing a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX). The micro structures of the peened and unpeened specimen are captured using optical microscopy and Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Micro-strain, dislocation density is also calculated from the x-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), in which grain size reduces by 28.07%, dislocation density surges by 38.65% and micro strain increases by 21.95% in peened specimen in correlation to unpeened AA 7075 T651. As a result of these improvements the corrosion resistance by 27.92% in the peened specimen in correlation to unpeened aluminium alloy.
