Experimental and Numerical Investigation of 3D Printing PLA Origami Tubes under Quasi-Static Uniaxial Compression

Abstract: The investigation aims to study the effects of temperature and damage constitutive model on the energy absorption performance of polymeric origami tubes under quasi-static impact. The uniaxial tensile responses of 3D-printed polylactic acid (PLA) samples following standard ASTM-D412 have been studied to characterize the mechanical properties at three temperatures: 30 °C, 40 °C, and 50 °C. The damage constitutive model is used to accurately characterize the stress-strain relations of the PLA. Quasi-static compr… Show more

“…The study aimed to analyze the effect of the infill line distance of 3D-printed circular samples on their compressive elastic behavior during cyclic compressive loading [52]. In the paper presented in [53], uniaxial tensile responses of 3D-printed polylactic acid (PLA) samples following standard ASTM-D412 have been studied to characterize the mechanical properties at three temperatures: 30 • C, 40 • C, and 50 • C. Also, this study includes quasi-static compressive experiments performed on polymetric tubes with different temperatures. In ref.…”

“…The corresponding force-displacement curves displayed a high initial, undesirable peak of force. Chen et al [16] performed an experimental and numerical investigation of 3D-printed PLA origami tubes printed at 5 mm/min, but, once again, this was conducted under quasi-static uniaxial compression. Quanjin et al [17] studied the effect of the infill pattern, density, and material type of 3D-printed PLA cubic structures, also under quasi-static loading.…”
