Experimental and Numerical Studies on Permeability Properties of Thermal Damaged Red Sandstone under Different Confining Pressures

Abstract: The stability and safety of underground rock mass engineering are closely related to the permeability process of fluids and permeability properties of rocks. To reveal the flow behavior of fluid in thermal damaged rock, first, a rock seepage testing system was applied to study the permeability properties of red sandstone specimens after different high-temperature treatments from 200 to 800°C under different confining pressures of 10 to 30 MPa. Meanwhile, the microstructures of the red sandstone specimens were … Show more

“…Sandstone. The general characteristic index dry density data was collated according to the Standard for Geotechnical Test Methods (GB/T50123-1999), Equations ( 15)- (17) are often used to calculate their arithmetic mean x̅ , standard deviation s, and coefficient of variation c v to discern their reliability.…”

“…Ma et al [16] concluded that clay minerals influence the disintegration process of red sandstone by analyzing the rock properties such as basic physical indicators and microstructural parameters of red sandstone slopes. Zhao et al [17] revealed the permeability characteristics of thermally damaged red sandstones under freeze-thaw cycles and different envelope pressures. Yin et al [18] concluded that red sandstone disintegration is caused by particle bonding fractures when encountering water.…”

“…The fractal dimension of acoustic emission events in rock failure process is a measure of the disorder of micro-cracks in rock, which can reflect the tendency of micro-damage evolution to macro-cracks (Liu et al, 2019;Ma et al, 2021;Zhao et al, 2021). Xie et al (2011) proposed a sphere-covering method and columncovering method to predict the spatial fractal distribution of rock acoustic emission events (Figure 11).…”
