Experimental and Theoretical Analysis of an Oxazinoquinoxaline Derivative for Corrosion Inhibition of Aisi 1018 Steel

Abstract: The inhibitory ability of an oxazinoquinoxaline derivative (OAQX) against the corrosion of AISI 1018 mild steel induced by aqueous 0.6 mol L -1 NaCl solution is herein evaluated. Linear polarization resistance studies showed the inhibitory efficiency of OAQX varying from 62.75% to 75.93% with OAQX concentration ranged from 0.259 x 10 -4 mol L -1 to 3.243 x 10 -4 mol L -1 . Aiming at to investigate the Tafel curves on the OAQX electrochemical behavior at saline (0.6 mol L -1 NaCl) aqueous media the linear Tafel… Show more

“…Reinforcement corrosion, sulfate attack, alkali-aggregate reaction, and freeze-thaw damage are some of the commonly occurring concrete durability problems 1 4 . However, corrosion of reinforcing steel is considered to be the major cause of concrete deterioration 1 , 5 – 7 . Apart from carbonation of concrete, which is a rather slow process and constitutes a real problem in industrialized regions and old structures 8 , the diffusion of chloride ions to the steel is the principal cause of reinforcement corrosion 9 .…”

“…To examine the electrochemical potentiodynamic effects on the mild steel surface, a computer controlled Potenentiostat / galvanostat instruments of model 1010E make Gamry instruments Inc. USA [11,37], were arranged with a mild steel strip of 1cm 2 of the exposed portion serves as the working probe, while calomel serves as an auxiliary probe and platinum foil serves as the reference probe, all has been prepared with surface cleaning method [38,39] for a three electrode assembly setup and arranged in a compartment for electrochemical examination of corrosion on mild steel surface. After steady state for further examinations, the tafel and linear polarization resistance, as well as differential thermal analysis, were reported for corrosion potential (Ecorr), anodic (βa) and cathodic (βc) tafel slopes, and corrosion current density (Icorr) at -0.25V to +0.25V with an average scan rate of 0.5 mV/sec [26,40,41].…”
