Experimental apparatus and sample preparation techniques for directional solidification

Abstract: We describe a directional solidification stage which allows the controlled solidification of transparent organic alloys. We present two variations of the experiment. In one, large aspect ratio sample cells can be rotated with respect to the temperature gradient between runs, allowing full 360°c ontrol over in-plane sample orientation.
