Experimental demonstration of SCMA for visible light communications

Abstract: We propose an experimental demonstration of sparse code multiple access (SCMA) based visible light communications (VLC) system, in which the multi-dimensional codewords selected from a predefined codebook set are used to encode the transmitted data and a message passing algorithm (MPA) based multi-user receiver is used to detect the multiplexed codewords. Compared with the orthogonal frequency-division multiple access scheme, the SCMA scheme offers 150% overloading gain in the number of supported users at the … Show more

“…The VLC systems have the requirement of real and positive signal transmission. In [143]- [145], radio-frequency (RF) based multi-dimensional CBs have been used and made suitable changes so that they can be applied to the VLC system. The SCMA CBs have been designed specifically for VLC systems in [146]- [149].…”

“…As seen in Fig. 6, most of the research has focused on power-domain NOMA in VLC systems and only one reference [146] has investigated SCMA scheme in code-domain NOMA. Hence, further detailed investigations on adopting other code-domain NOMA solutions and the solutions of NOMA multiplexing in multiple domains (see Fig.…”

“…Several research works incorporating SCMA in VLC (SCMA-VLC) systems have been presented in the literature. In [11], [12], experimental demonstration of SCMA-VLC system with overloading factor of 1.5 was reported 2 . In [13], a hybrid power-domain SCMA was investigated for VLC, showing improved data rate at the cost of reduced transmission distance.…”
