Experimental determination of dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete with ultrasonic pulse velocity method and ultrasonic pulse echo method

Abstract: In this article are presented the author's experimental studies for determining the dynamic modulus of elasticity of concrete in tests of reinforced concrete beams at the age of concrete 1926 days. For two years the reinforced concrete elements were indoors, and for the next more than three years they were left outdoors, exposed to external atmospheric influences. The results of the measured velocities of P-longitudinal and S-transverse waves generated by piezoelectric transducers are presented. The research u… Show more

“…They developed an ANN model that was used to predict a unique dataset obtained from the available literature to demonstrate its usefulness. This dataset was divided into two distinct sets: The first set is for the use of concrete prisms with concrete strengths ranging from 20 to 45 MPa, an average concrete density of 2285 kg/m 3 , and an aspect ratio of 7.85 to 15.93 [5]. The second set is for the use of standard concrete 15 cm cubes with concrete strengths ranging from 20 to 45 MPa, an aspect ratio of 1.0, and an average concrete density of 2430 kg/m 3 [20].…”

“…For testing these dynamic properties, the ultrasonic method is a beneficial, non-destructive tool. This approach gives critical insights into features such as dynamic shear modulus, dynamic modulus of elasticity, and dynamic Poisson's ratio by submitting concrete specimens to high-frequency ultrasonic pulses and studying their propagation through the material [5]. Ultrasonic pulse-echo testing usually necessitates the use of specialist equipment such as ultrasonic transducers, a pulse generator, and a receiver.…”
