Experimental Evaluation of Rootstock Clamping Device for Inclined Inserted Grafting of Melons

Abstract: A grafting machine is a kind of machine that can quickly graft scion to rootstock instead of manual grafting. Currently, an inclined inserted grafting machine uses the mechanical clamping method, which can easily damage the rootstock seedlings due to its high stiffness, thus, reducing the success rate of grafting. This study proposed an effective, flexible clamping device for grafting. The suction hole diameter (HD), the negative pressure (NP), and the surface inclination angle (IA) of the clamping device were… Show more

“…It is reliably known that just one glass of watermelon juice is quite enough to satisfy the daily need of a healthy person for such a vital trace element as magnesium [41]. Due to this property, nutritionists strongly recommend including watermelon juice in the diet of people with arterial hypertension [42].…”

“…Before removing the rootstock growth point, the rootstock needs to be held using the inclined insertion grafting method. A rootstock seedling clamping mechanism was designed in our previous study [23], as shown in Figure 1. The clamping mechanism mainly involves clamping blocks, silicone rubbers, and cylinders.…”

“…Currently, the clamping mechanism often uses a mechanical clamping method, which predisposes the rootstock to damage. To solve this problem, a flexible rootstock clamping device, based on the inclined inserted method, was designed in the previous study [20].…”

“…In the previous study, a rootstock clamping mechanism was designed and tested. The test results showed that the mechanism had a better holding effect on rootstocks, with low damage [20]. To evaluate the rootstock deformation during the holding process, further studies need to be conducted on the viscoelastic properties of rootstock.…”
