Abstract: Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most prevalent human congenital cardiac malformation, predisposing to clinically relevant valvulopathies and aorthopathies. BAV aortopathy consists in aortic dilatation caused by medial cystic necrosis, characterized by elastic lamina (EL) disruption and smooth muscle cell (SMC) apoptosis.
