Among others, dogs {Egelberg 1965, Hannson, Lindhe & Branemark 1968, Schroeder & Lindhe 1980, cats (Nuki & Cooper 1972, Hock 1975, Seawright & Hdrlicka 1974, various strains of mice {Baer & White 1960, Rateitschak & Reimers 1969), hamsters (Ranieri, Toto & Garguilo 1979, Miller & Ripley 1975, rats (Leonard 1979, Zuckerman & Rosen 1975, Gtjpta & Shaw 1956a, and marmosets (Levy 1976) have been used to examine the development and pathology of gingivitis atid periodontitis.
