Experimental immunology Non-invasive diagnosis of endometriosis based on a combined analysis of four plasma biomarkers

Abstract: (46.70 ±27.08 vs. 27.08 ±16.29, p < 0.05; 49.39 ±28.32 vs. 9.78 ±3.87, respectively). In women with minimal-mild endometriosis, only the plasma level of p < 0.05). In women with moderatesevere endometriosis, plasma levels of IL-6 and CA-125 were significantly increased, and those of Epo and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) were significantly decreased (44.53 ±31.07 vs. 27.08 ±16.29, p < 0.05; 57.84 ±61.44 vs. 9.78 ±3.87, p < 0.05; 26.60 ±10.19 vs. 30.32 ±7.94, p < 0.05; 58.61 ±7.93 vs. 65.40 ±9.86, p < 0.05… Show more

“…Immune system alterations are thought to be involved in the development of endometriosis, especially a dysfunction in immune-related cells and macrophages within the peritoneum secreting a number of products, mainly cytokines and growth factors [ 4 , 5 ]. At this level, there is an immune-inflammatory reaction that activates immune cells, together with endometriotic implants, producing high amounts of cytokines, growth factors, and angiogenic products [ 6 ].…”

“…Plasma levels of angiogenic/antiangiogenic substances are of prognostic value in obstetric triage: similar to a progressively worsening clinical course detected in women with early-onset PE, alterations in the angiogenic profi le linked to a more antiangiogenic state could be found [12].…”

“…Key words: ovarian endometriosis cyst, pro-inflammatory cytokines, IL6, IL8, TNF-α Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus. Unfortunately, this pathology is more common in fertile people aged 16-50 years, characterized by increasingly worsened pain and subfertility [1][2]. Women with endometriosis have symptoms that include chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea and dyspareunia, that significantly reduce the quality of their life.…”
