Experimental Investigation of a Synthetic Jet Array in a Laminar Channel Flow

Abstract: Abstract. The paper deals with an impinging synthetic jet, namely on the case of a synthetic jet array interacting with a laminar channel flow. This arrangement can be useful in many micro-scale applications, such as cooling of micro-electronics. The flow regime in micro-scale is usually laminar with very small Reynolds numbers; therefore synthetic jet array can be used for the profile disturbance and heat transfer enhancement. The paper focuses on the low Reynolds number (in order 10 2 ). The working fluid is… Show more

“…A lot of international authors e.g. [6,7,8] deal with the question of an appropriate type of convection and they have been trying to find out a compromise between thermal comfort and the size of the supplied energy. The results showed that in energy terms is more advantageous to use the natural convection instead of the forced convection.…”

“…Especially in micro-electronic coolers, the flow regime is usually laminar, with a very small Reynolds numbers (in the order of 10 2 ). Therefore, transfer processes such as mixing and cooling are typically based on gradient diffusion [17][18][19][20]. The heat transfer processes can be enhanced with the actuation of the laminar flow, creating a so-called "quasi-turbulent" flow character [19].…”
