“…Demetriades et al (1983) conjectured that evident arc damage to the centre of the anode wall in the downstream half of the channel used in the High Performance Demonstration Experiment a t the Arnold Engineering Development Center (Starr et al 1982) was a manifestation of the magnetoaerothermal instability mentioned above. McClaine, Swallom & Kessler (1985) reported axial velocity profiles measured using a traversing stagnation pressure probe mounted in the diffuser of the Avco Mk VI generator. The profile measured between the top and bottom walls was found to be strongly skewed by MHD forces, presumably as a consequence of secondary flow.…”
