Experimental investigation of TBC coated piston with various blends of biodiesel

Abstract

One of the main motivations behind the development of alternative fuels is to protect the environment and advance sustainability. Biodiesel, a specific potential substitute, improves the overall performance of diesel engines. Therefore, this work examines how well biodiesel performs in terms of engine fuel consumption and emission efficiency. In the proposed work, diesel and soup nut oil are combined at B30, B60, and B90 ratios. To boost thermal stability, the TBC is also used over the piston.Additionally, Di-Tertiary Butyl Peroxide, an ignition promotor, is introduced. Different coatings, including yttria-stabilized zirconia (A2), magnesium-stabilized zirconia (A1), and gadolinium zirconate, were used in the experimental process (GD). The experimental process is performed with the help of an experimental setup. The results are showed the performance of the proposed biodiesel along with the ignition promoter. The validation of the proposed biodiesel is performed in terms of estimating the parameters such as indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP), brake thermal efficiency (BTE), and specific fuel consumption (SFC). Furthermore, the emission level of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC), and oxidization of nitrogen (NO x ) are also measured to validate the performance of the proposed bio-diesel.
