Experimental Investigation of Wave-Induced Ship Hydroelastic Vibrations by Large-Scale Model Measurement in Coastal Waves

Abstract: Ship hydroelastic vibration is an issue involving mutual interactions among inertial, hydrodynamic, and elastic forces. The conventional laboratory tests for wave-induced hydroelastic vibrations of ships are performed in tank conditions. An alternative approach to the conventional laboratory basin measurement, proposed in this paper, is to perform tests by large-scale model measurement in real sea waves. In order to perform this kind of novel experimental measurement, a large-scale free running model and the e… Show more

“…However, in the authors' previous researches the ships were designed as rigid hulls, which could not reflect the elastic effects of ship girders. Furthermore, according to the authors' best knowledge, so far, there has been very little published literature related to the wave loads experiments performed using a large-scale segmented model in coastal sea [14][15].…”

“…The theory of ship hydroelasticity has seen a process from potential flow to viscous flow, from The experiment methods considered as an irreplaceable way to study the physics of hydroelasticity and to validate different numerical models. Jiao [1] made a detailed review on the experimental study of ship hydroelasticity. The segmented ship model experiment has become the main method to study the ship hydroelasticity [2][3][4].…”
