Experimental Investigation on Composite Seismic Isolation System

Abstract: The objective of the present work is to propose a new composite seismic isolation system device based on the cable-sliding friction aseismic bearing (CSFAB). Multi-chip steel spiral spring (MSSS) are characterized by unique mechanical properties due to elastic recovery capability. An isolation bearing system based on a MSSS elastic effect is intended to provide recovery properties to reduce or eliminate the residual deformations. The device concept is based on two separate systems, one to transmit the vertical… Show more

“…SSS has recently been proposed [72][73][74] to overcome some of these shortcomings due to its specifically pioneered structure, its construction-industry-friendly characteristics, and its other advantageous features such as the versatility provided by its alternative novel configurations. Figure 2 summarizes the aforementioned review, giving the attention only to the SMAbased sliding ISs, as SSS falls in this category and differs from other similar ISs that include SMA-based rubber bearings [75][76][77][78][79] and the ISs with steel cables [79][80][81][82][83]. The solid arrows connecting Figure 2a-j demonstrate the progress made by SSS and its significance.…”
