Experimental investigation on effective detection of delamination in gfrp composites using taguchi method

Abstract: Detection of delamination defect in glass fiber reinforced plastics (GFRP) by using ultrasonic testing has been a challenging task in industry. The properties of the constituent materials, fiber orientation and the stacking sequence of laminated composite materials could cause high attenuation of ultrasound signals. Ultrasonic testing is based on the interpretation of the reflected ultrasound signals when a transducer imposes ultrasound waves (pulse) to a material. It is difficult to differentiate if the refle… Show more

“…Obtaining a maximum coverage of viewpoints could be similar to the “greedy-generate and test” algorithm used by robotizing the in-line scanning experiment in [ 9 ]. According to Ng et al, there are several parameters to be identified before running an NDT experiment; some are controllable, and some are driven by noise factors [ 16 ]. The controllable factors are the ones that can be manipulated during the experiment and have direct effects on the process outcomes.…”

“…The signal factor has an average effect on the response value, while the noise factor has a complete effect. Thus, altering these factors using high, low, and medium levels will allow the capturing and analyzing of different responses [ 16 ].…”

“…Polyaramide fibers of aromatic polyamide are characterized by low density, good mechanical properties and high corrosion and chemicals resistance. A disadvantage of this material is low bending strength [16]. They have a high specific modulus, much higher from the specific modulus of fiberglass [17,18].…”

“…Hybrid bamboo is intended to be a candidate for a superior anti-ballistic material (Davoodi, Sapuan, Ahmad, Aidy, Khalina and Janoobi, 2012;Abbud et al, 2012;Aidy et al, 2012;. The hybrid bamboo will undergo non-destructive testing for defect scanning Suriani, Aidy, Khalina, Sapuan, Abdullah and Haftirman, 2012;Zahra et al, 2012;Ng et al, 2012Ng et al, , 2013a. The result of this research allow manufacturers and engineers to make a sound decision whether or not to consider bamboo composite in their selection of materials in design processes.…”
