Experimental Investigation on the Instability of Al Sheet in Hydraulic Bulging Based on ESPI

Abstract: Electronic speckle pattern interferometry (ESPI) was applied to hydraulic bulging to analyze the entire deformation process, especially the instability evolution of Al 1060 sheet. Speckle patterns of the specimens were captured continuously to record the deformation fields. The development of full-field strain rate during bulging was represented by the fringe patterns real-timely. The emergence of the defect and its subsequent transformation into groove and crack were revealed clearly by the aberration region … Show more

“…A smaller weak region was obtained ( Fig. 12(b)) compared with the long banded weak region in hydraulic bulging described by Liu and Wang (2009). The occurrence of diffuse necking is delayed by viscous medium since about 4% of ε y is obtained after the appearance of the defect, which is about one-tenth of the total strain.…”

“…Hydraulic bulging tests of Al 1060 were also carried out by the authors (Liu and Wang, 2009). The values of ε y at diffuse necking and localized necking were about 30.2% and 30.8%, respectively.…”
