Experimental Investigation on Tribological Characteristics of NaOH Treated Chopped Abaca Fiber Reinforced Epoxy Composites

Abstract: For material engineers, greater consumption of fuel by the aviation and automobile sector is a greater challenge. Based on this scenario, exploration towards the generation of new engineering materials which are lighter with superior mechanical properties in the field of aviation and automobile sector is found to be important. Reduce the fuel utilization up to 70% in the above mentioned sectors is the 2025 universe vision. According to substantial reports, eco-friendly products can be refined from natural fibe… Show more

“…The method of optical microscopy confirmed ( Figure 11 b,c) that multiple deformations of CM as a result of micro-impacts by abrasive particles lead to the formation of microcracks on the surface, the plane of which is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the hydroabrasive mixture. In this case, grooves appear on the contact surface that have an orientation in the direction of the sliding speed vector of the hydroabrasive flow [ 55 , 56 , 57 ]. Mostly, such a mechanism makes an insignificant contribution to the activation process, compared to the mechanism of plastic deformation, which is dominant for epoxy matrix.…”

“…Among the existing pigments, phosphate-containing pigments are belonging to the electrochemical active class [11,12]. Zinc phosphate (ZP) pigment is often used in organic coatings to replace chromium-based pigments, which are toxic despite a significant protective effect [13,14]. However, zinc phosphate is a scarce material compared to chromate [15,16].…”

“…The authors [10][11][12][13][14][15] have demonstrated that using polymer CMs substantially enhances the physical and mechanical properties and the wear resistance of transportation components exposed to aggressive environments. Consequently, this significantly extends the service life of mechanisms and machines, contributing to their reliability [16][17][18][19][20].…”
