Experimental investigations of a gamma Stirling engine

Abstract: International audienceThe present work deals with the measurement and performance of a gamma Stirling engine of 500?W of mechanical shaft power and 600?rpm of maximal revolutions per minute. Series of measurements concerning the pressure distribution, temperature evolution, and brake power were performed. The study of the different functioning parameters such as initial charge pressure, engine velocity, cooling water flowrate, and temperature gradient (between the sources of heat) has been analyzed. The engine… Show more

“…According to the experimental investigations of the Viebach prototype, presented in reference [9], the Stirling engine can operate without an initial filling pressure and can deliver around 69.84 W of brake power. However, it is not possible to start the engine at an atmospheric pressure.…”

“…Gheith et al [9] has experimented a Gamma type Stirling engine of 500 W of mechanical shaft power and 600 rpm of maximal revolutions per minute. They studied the effect of initial filling pressure, engine speed, and cooling water flow rates on the engine performances.…”

“…Figure 1a). The geometric properties of this Stirling engine are presented in previous studies of Gheith et al [23][24][25][26], with some experimental investigations. In particular, the influence of initial filling pressure, engine speed, cooling water flow rates and heating temperature on the engine performances (brake power and efficiency) has been highlighted.…”
