Experimental methods in chemical engineering: X‐ray diffraction spectroscopy—XRD

Abstract: X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis identifies the long-range order (ie, the structure) of crystalline materials and the short-range order of non-crystalline materials. From this information we deduce lattice constants and phases, average grain size, degree of crystallinity, and crystal defects. Advanced XRD provides information about strain, texture, crystalline symmetry, and electron density. When radiation impinges upon a solid, coherent scattering of the radiation by periodically spaced atoms results in scatt… Show more

“…VOSViewer groups the keywords into four research clusters [ 19 ] : the blue cluster to the left of the map with the most keywords includes surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), nanoparticles, and Au nanoparticles (Figure 5); films, optical properties, and photoluminescence are major keywords in the red cluster at the top; graphene, carbon nanotubes, and nanocomposites are part of the green cluster to the left; and the smallest cluster (yellow at the bottom) has photocatalysis, degradation, and TiO 2 as the major key words. This classification resembles that of many of the other spectroscopic techniques like FTIR, [ 7 ] x‐ray diffraction, [ 20 ] x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, [ 21 ] and transmission electron microscopy. [ 22 ]…”

“…On the other hand, the crystallite size of the Au/Fe 3 O 4 nanostructure was calculated from the experimental XRD pattern employing the Williamson-Hall method. Which in the first stage of the method, consider the full width at half maximum of the peak (FWHM) [40] , which were calculated from the XRD data by the Pseudo-Voight function [41] , [42] , [43] ( Table 2 .) where L(x) is the Gaussian curve which are described mathematically as: …”
