“…In this section, we describe twelve English language reviews published in academic journals. Five reviews were broad (Kim & Vandenabeele, 2010; Perry, 2014; Perry & Vandenabeele, 2015; Ritz, Brewer, & Neumann, 2016; Vandenabeele & Skelcher, 2015), three honed in on a particular relationship between PSM and another (set of) variable(s) (Homberg, McCarthy, & Tabvuma, 2015; Papenfuß & Keppeller, 2020; Piatak et al, 2020), one focused on the health workforce (Fernandes et al, 2022), and one focused on experimental PSM research (Mensah & Amegavi, 2022). We cross‐reference studies included in these reviews with our own findings, as described in the methods section.…”

“…Papenfuß and Keppeler (2020) highlighted that insufficient attention has been paid to state‐owned enterprises in PSM research; of the 232 studies of PSM and performance‐based pay, they find only twenty were conducted in state‐owned enterprises. Lastly, Mensah and Amegavi (2022) reviewed 55 experiment‐based PSM studies published between 1992 and 2022 with a methodological analysis. Aside from Ritz, Brewer, and Neumann (2016), none of the review studies mention Canadian‐specific PSM literature.…”
