Experimental Study of Gas Explosions in Hydrogen Sulfide-Natural Gas-Air Mixtures

Abstract: An experimental study of turbulent combustion of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S) and natural gas was performed to provide reference data for verification of CFD codes and direct comparison. Hydrogen sulfide is present in most crude oil sources, and the explosion behaviour of pure H 2 S and mixtures with natural gas is important to address. The explosion behaviour was studied in a four-meterlong square pipe. The first two meters of the pipe had obstacles while the rest was smooth. Pressure transducers were used to mea… Show more

“…H 2 S can also accelerated corrosion rates (Gouda et al, 1993). SRBs' biomass and sulfide metals ions can also decrease the efficiency of secondary oil recovery due to reservoir plugging (Nemati et al, 2001), in addition to the toxic and explosive nature of hydrogen sulfide when mixed with air (Gaathaug et al, 2014). …”

“…The souring of oil fields occurs because of the H2S and sulfide ions that are produced when the reservoirs are exposed to flooding during the secondary recovery process. The efficiency of secondary oil recovery can be reduced due to the SRB’s biomass and sulfide metal ions ( Gaathaug et al, 2014 ).…”
