a b s t r a c tHydrodynamic instabilities are regarded as important but are undesirable occurrences for the systems used in process industries, which involve steam. These instabilities affect to a great extent the life line of the safe operation of their systems by inducing thermal stresses and steam induced water hammers. On the basis of system operational analysis, it was found that condensation induced hydrodynamic instabilities were responsible for one third of the destructive events in steam driven systems and their attributes in power and process industry. Thus it becomes vital to investigate the influence of critical parameter such as sub-cooling to curb the destructive effects due to hydrodynamic instabilities on to the process equipment. Here for steam water two phase flows, the attenuation of hydrodynamic instabilities due to sub-cooling and inlet pressure has been investigated. It was found that sub-cooling has more pronounced and notable effect on the attenuation of these instabilities.

An annular powder‐liquid mixer is a new type of jet pump used to mix powder. This mixer is mainly used to mix fracturing fluids in oil and natural gas exploitation processes. Free from powder pellets, the mixer has characteristics, such as high mixing efficiency and great suction. The structural parameters, such as hose diameter, exit section diameter, falloff angle, divergence angle, hose length‐diameter ratio, and annular nozzle diameter, may influence this new type of mixer. By using an orthogonal experiment to optimize the structure of an annular ring‐type powder mixer and performing a comparative analysis of the results of numerical simulations, this paper finally determines the mixer's structure. According to experiments, the mixer's negative suction can reach 0.09 MPa, there are no powder pellets during the mixing process, and the mixing effect is very good.

This research presents theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of combined valves' dynamic characteristics in reciprocating oil-gas multiphase pump. Based on the mathematical model describing valves' motion, a geometric model of pump cavity and combined valves is put forward for numerical simulation in multiphase pump. The simulation is conducted by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method with its dynamic grid technique. The motion process of suction valve and discharge valve are obtained on the basis of boundary conditions and optimized numerical approaches. And the effects of gas volume fraction (0.1 ∼ 0.9), suction pressure (0.20 ∼ 0.40 MPa) and discharge pressure (1.0 ∼ 3.0 MPa) on valves' motion are reported. The results of pressure distribution, and valves' lift and velocity show that valve plates may cling or rebound and then vibrate after reaching the lift limiter, and the lag angle of one cycle remains 3°under different working conditions. The study could lay theoretical foundation for the design of new type of multiphase pump. ARTICLE HISTORY
