Experimental study on a small scale of gas hydrate cold storage apparatus

Abstract: To have an overall investigation of cold storage characteristics to help to promote the application, a novel small scale of gas hydrate cold storage apparatus was designed. The amount of cold energy, growth rate, Hydrate Packed Factor (HPF) and overall heat transfer coefficient during the cold storage process were calculated and analyzed under different heat exchangers, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDS) concentrations, hydration enhancement ways, inlet coolant temperatures and flow rates, etc. Results sho… Show more

“…This is a key attribute for gas hydrates in gas storage and transport applications. Other applications of gas hydrates are in gas separation (Babu et al, 2013a;Kang and Lee, 2000;Linga et al, 2007aLinga et al, , b, 2010Link et al, 2003;Torré et al, 2012), desalination (Babu et al, 2014;Cai et al, 2014;Park et al, 2011;Sun et al, 2004) and cold storage (Shi and Zhang, 2013;Xie et al, 2010;Zhang and Ma, 2012).…”

“…Moreover, the thermal power from the heat storage tank supplied to the demand side (h demand,t ) is calculated by Eq. (11). The heat (h hst, ghb,t ) to the GHB is supplied by controlling the flow of the heat medium by the geothermal heat exchanger.…”

“…Study of natural-gas transportation is investigated by Javanmardi et al [8], Hu et al [9], and Kim et al [10]. Studies have further investigated the use of gas hydrates for the storage of cold energy by Xie et al [11], Bi et al [12], Daitoku and Utaka [13], and capture of CO 2 by Aspelund et al [14,15]. A prominent characteristic of gas hydrates is that the phase equilibrium condition of formation and dissociation occurs under large pressure differences with relatively small temperature changes.…”

“…Although this event has brought about some problems, it is not possible to ignore its advantages, applications, and wide studies on it. Gas hydrate applications contain gas supply (Englezos, 1993;Englezos and Lee, 2005), natural gas storage and transportation (Komui et al, 2010;Xie et al, 2010), separation process from gas mixtures Mohammadi et al, 2011), and sea water desalination (Seo and Lee, 2001;Chun et al, 2009). Hydrates are very important in petroleum and gas industries due to capturing small gas molecules that can be used for separating gas impurities (Koh, 2002).…”
