Experimental Study on Coupled Motion of Floating Crane Barge and Lifted Module in Irregular Waves

Abstract: Installation and decommissioning activities of offshore structures often applied a floating crane barge for a lifting operation. The excessive movement response of lifted module affected by the motion of floating crane barge in waves can increase a large amplitude. However, the coupled motions of a floating crane barge and lifted module are not easy to predict accurately due to the dynamic movement of a lifted module and the complex coupling system. The coupled motion responses of a floating crane barge and a … Show more

“…In addition to being affected by the damping coefficient, the dynamic responses of floating cranes on the multibody system are significantly induced by the dynamic response of a swinging pendulum. According to the experimental study 8,12) , the oscillation of swinging suspended objects influenced the obstructed roll motion in beam seas.…”

“…Their research indicated that the monopile motion affects the resonance of the crane vessel's response. An experimental study of floating crane barges with and without a lifted load was investigated by Firdaus et al 8) . The results of the model test show that the movement of the lifted load influences the roll response and the shift of the natural period.…”

“…Floating crane is a floating structure equipped with accommodation facilities and one or more cranes used for lifting operations at sea. Various activities in offshore areas, such as transportation, structure assembly, installation, and decommissioning, typically involve heavy lifting and are commonly performed using floating crane vessels [1].…”

“…This lifting method is referred to as a conventional method that uses a crane barge to lift and position the structures installed onto the jacket, and one of the operational categories is Heavy Lifting [2]. This crane barge provides flexible and efficient maritime transportation in Heavy Lifting operations, including installation and decommissioning activities [3]. Heavy Lifting operations on a crane barge typically handle the structure with weights ranging from 60 to 60,000 tons, with any Structure lighter or heavier falling outside the scope of Heavy Lifting [4].…”
