Experimental Study on Dry Electrical Contact Discharge (ECD) Dressing Parameters of Coarse Diamond Grinding Wheel

Abstract: A dry electrical contact discharge (ECD) dressing and truing method was used to dress coarse diamond grinding wheel in this paper. The dressing efficiency of diamond wheel greatly depends on dressing parameters and discharge efficiency. The relationships between various dressing parameters and discharge efficiency were investigated under different discharge voltages. The purpose of the experiment is to find optimal discharge dressing parameters. The results indicate that the most appropriate electrical dischar… Show more

“…4,5 Electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) is particularly suitable for precision grinding of metal binders, ultrafine granularity and ultra-hard grinding wheels, which solves the problem of continuous sharpness of metal ultrafine ultra-hard grinding wheels, but it is less efficient. 6,7 In this case, the relevant scholars put forward to composite two or more in these finishing ways, being to help each other with respective advantages, such as electrospark-induced controllable combustion and turning dressing, 8 chemical–mechanical dressing, 9 dry electrical discharge-assisted dressing (dry-ECD), 10,11 grinding wheel mechanical dressed assisted by ultrasonic vibration, 12 laser-ultrasonic vibration synergic dressing, 13 EDM-chemical dressing, 14 EDM-ultrasonic vibration dressing, 15 ELID/EDM dressing, 16 ultrasound-assisted laser trepanning, etc. 17 These composite dressing methods improved wheel dressing efficiency and dressing quality, reduced the grinding wheel wear to some extent, but there were still some limitations, such as not being highly effective in process dressing, high processing cost, large energy consumption, etc.…”
