The demand for cost-effective high-speed maglev has constantly increased all over the world. Large-gap electromagnetic suspension (EMS) system which uses superconducting-hybrid electromagnet has been considered as the innovative maglev technology to reduce the construction cost of guideway. But, in order to realize the large-gap EMS concept to the existing high-speed maglev, a practical superconducting electromagnet that is able to interface with the existing propulsion system of vehicle must be developed. In this study, the operating current characteristics of superconducting coil caused by magnetic interface of control current in superconducting-hybrid magnetic levitation system are investigated. The characteristics is theoretically analyzed and experimentally proved with a small-scale iron core model. Results show that the current operating performance of superconducting coil is limited by magnetic interface with control current of levitation system. Meanwhile, DC operating current of control coil does not affect to the critical current of superconducting coil.
