Experimental Study on Rapid Determination Method of Coal Seam Gas Content by Indirect Method

Abstract: In view of the problems of heavy work, long cycle, high cost and low efficiency in the process of indirect determination of coal seam gas content, the basic gas parameters and coal quality indexes of 24 coal samples from 5 coal mines in the Hancheng area of Shanxi Province are measured by the laboratory measurement method. The raw coal gas content–gas desorption index of drilling cuttings (W–K1) relationship model is characterized by logarithmic function. Using SPSS data analysis software, a stepwise multiple … Show more

“…4,5 Gas content is normally measured using the direct method or the indirect method. The indirect method is limited in its use due to the complexity, long cycle, and low success rate of gas pressure measurement in coal seams, [6][7][8] while the direct method has been extensively applied by virtue of its advantages such as high measuring speed and broad applicability to complex geological conditions. 9,10 According to the direct method, coal seam gas content mainly involves three parts, namely gas loss, underground natural desorption, and residual gas content.…”

“…[8][9][10][11][12] The indirect method is based on the original gas pressure of the coal seam measured in the field and the value of gas adsorption constant determined in the laboratory and the results of industrial analysis, using the Langmuir equation to deduce the gas content. 13,14 This method requires the gas pressure value to be accurately measured. However, when drilling in the coal seam to determine the gas pressure, the process requirements are relatively strict, the cycle is long, and the success rate is limited.…”

“…Coal seam gas content is a key parameter in the exploration and development of coalbed methane resources, which can effectively predict the occurrence of protrusion, examine the effectiveness of regional antisurge, and evaluate the degree of coal mine gas hazard. The methods of coal bed gas content determination are divided into direct method and indirect method. , The process of the indirect method to determine coal seam gas content is complicated, the measurement period is long, and the success rate is low, so the direct method is mostly used to measure coal seam gas content underground in China. The direct method of measuring coal seam gas content mainly includes three parts: determination of gas desorption in underground coal samples, determination of residual gas in a laboratory, and extrapolation of gas loss during sampling, of which the first two parts can be measured according to relevant requirements, and the results are real and reliable.…”
