Experimental study on solid circulation in a multiple jet fluidized bed

Abstract: Particle image velocimetry was used to investigate the evolution of multiple inlet gas jets located at the distributor base of a two‐dimensional fluidized bed setup. Results were used to estimate the solid circulation rate of the fluidized bed as well as particle‐entrainment into the individual jets. The effects of fluidization velocity, orifice diameter, orifice pitch, particle diameter, and particle density were studied. It was determined from this study that the solid circulation rate linearly increased wit… Show more

“…In these processes, high-speed jets are usually used to mix and react with the two-phase fluid in the equipment, so as to improve mass transfer, heat transfer, and reaction efficiency. [1][2][3][4][5] As a high efficiency mixing and reaction equipment, riser reactors have been widely used for multiphase reactions, [6] and high-speed jets is very commonly used in riser reactors in many industrial processes. To have a deep understanding of the interaction mechanism between the multiphase flow and the feed injection in the riser reactor is thus very important.…”

“…The standard noninvasive measurement techniques used for the determination of particle trajectories and velocities are as follows: pitot tube, 18 Laser-Doppler anemometry, 19 video technique, 20 radioactive particle tracking, 21 and particle image velocimetry. 22 Nevertheless, techniques based on an optical-fiber probe are also promising for this purpose. [23][24][25][26][27][28][29] In recent years, with the development of high performance computers, researchers have used numerical methods to study the flow behavior of fluidized beds.…”
