Experimental Study on the Behavior of Steel–Concrete Composite Decks with Different Shear Span-to-Depth Ratios

Abstract: This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the mechanical behaviors of steel‒concrete composite decks with different shear span-to-depth ratios. Herein, four composite decks categorized into two types with shear span-to-depth ratios of 2.5 and 4.6 are designed for an experimental program. The decks then undergo the four-point bending tests until failure to investigate the structural responses, such as the load, displacement, crack mechanism, and failure mode. Conventional section analysis is u… Show more

“…Only the analysis and design of B-regions can proceed on a sectional basis for which plane sections remain plane, whereas the analysis and design of D-regions must proceed on a regional basis. “…Areas exposed to high shear loads, such as those surrounding columns, necessitate specialized attention during the design process, mirroring the considerations for a solid slab [17]. Regarding load-carrying capacity, reinforced bubble deck concrete slabs have demonstrated higher capacities than conventional concrete deck slabs [18]. The inclusion of shear connectors allows the composite deck slabs to carry significantly more load.…”

“…Solid slabs consider as one of the most structural elements in multi-story buildings consuming concrete, so many researchers investigated the possibility of using different types of concrete and slabs to overcome this problem [3][4][5][6][7].…”
