Experimental Study on the Physical Properties of Iron Ore Granules Made from Australian Iron Ores

Abstract: A fundamental experimental study was conducted to measure the physical properties of iron ore granules made from three types of Australian iron ores. In this study, some key physical property parameters, including apparent density, Young's modulus and the coefficients of static and rolling frictions, of the iron ore granules with varying moisture content were investigated. The effect of granule size on the considered property parameters was also studied for the iron ore granules at the optimal moisture content… Show more

“…In addition to chemical properties, physical properties of bulk density, moisture and fractions of iron ore particle sizes are important parameters for iron ore quality 39,40 . For example, the high density with low porosity www.nature.com/scientificreports/ can slow down the flame front speed, impacting the combustion efficiency and the strength of the formed sinter 41 .…”

“…The mixture was first pre-mixed for 2 minutes followed by addition of the desired amount of water and then the granulation was continued for 3 minutes. The particle size distribution (retained mass%) and apparent density of the green feed were measured according to the procedure described by Ellis et al 24) and Li et al 25) These measured values are presented in Tables 3 and 4 respectively.…”

“…The composition and size distribution are referred to elsewhere. 19 Coke can be produced in coke oven batteries using coal as the raw material based on the decomposition (pyrolysis) of coal that occurs inside the oven. 20 As a result, the products from the coke oven batteries include coke and COG.…”
