Experimental Study on Transient Startup Characteristics of a Super Low Specific Speed Centrifugal Pump

Abstract: In this paper, the transient behavior of a super low speci c speed centrifugal pump, with the speci c speed of 25, during startup period under shut-o condition and rapid depressurization process at the pump inlet is experimentally studied. The pump performance and vibration are tested under given transient operating conditions. The experimental results show that the motor speed linearly increases when the pump started up with di erent accelerated speeds under shut-o condition, and reaches its highest value at … Show more

“…[17][18]. For the long run development of large-scale pumping stations and pumped storage power stations, the requirements of unit operation stability become more rigorous [19][20]. Therefore, it has great significance to study the hysteresis effect in the hump region of centrifugal pump and to reveal the mechanism of hysteresis effect.…”

“…Until now, lots of research about the fluid-induced force of the centrifugal pump to improve its stability have been studied [15,16]. Karaskiewicz K et al [17] used the experiments and numerical simulations to investigate the radial force and axial push torque of centrifugal pump impeller.…”

“…It was found that the conversion efficiency of internal mechanical energy is higher during the closing valve transition process, while the transient flow in the initial stage of the opening valve transition resulted in more significant rotational stall in the impeller passage, and then the internal flow gradually stabilized. In 2019, Wang et al [15] conducted an experimental investigation on the transient flow during the startup process of an ultra low specific speed centrifugal pump. It was found that the phenomenon of head impact is commonly present before the startup is completed, and it becomes more significant with increasing startup acceleration.…”
