In this paper we have explored a novel and green method to synthesis and polymerize ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDM). This technique consists on using Maghnite (Algerian clay) as a green catalyst to replace toxic catalysts. The Algerian clay has been modified using two ion exchange process to obtain Maghnite-H+ (proton exchanged process) and Maghnite-Na+ (sodium exchanged process). Synthesis experiments of EGDM and Poly (EGDM) are performed in bulk respecting the principles of green chemistry. The structure of the obtained monomer and the obtained polymer was confirmed by FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR, where the methacrylate end groups are clearly visible. The presence of unsaturated end group in the structure of monomer was confirmed by UV-Visible analysis. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to study the thermal stability of these obtained products. Copyright © 2020 BCREC Group. All rights reserved

The biosynthesis of cellular polymers of Azotobacter vinelandii N-15 strain using molasses as a carbon source has been optimized. The highest yield of polymer (25.8 % of cell mass) was obtained on a nutrient medium with a molasses concentration of 50 g/l. Using TL-chromatography and IR-spectroscopy the obtained product was identified as polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), and its properties were investigated. The wetting contact angle was used to characterize the biopolymer film surface properties. According to the results of thermal and thermomechanical studies, it was found that the obtained РHB is characterized by a high thermal stability and heat resistance: the melting point is 462 K; deep destruction and thermooxidative processes begin at the temperatures above 567 K.

The definition of the term "conversion" is discussed for a variety of polymer syntheses. It is demonstrated that in contrast to organic and inorganic chemistry several different definitions are needed in polymer science. The influence of increasing conversion on structure and topology of homo-and copolymers is illustrated. Chain-growth polymerizations, such as radical polymerization or living anionic polymerizations of vinyl monomers, condensative chain polymerization, two and three-dimensional step-growth polymerizations, ring-ring or chain-chain equilibration and chemical modification of polymers are considered.
