Explanation of major determinants of poverty using multivariate statistical approach and spatial technology: a case study on Birbhum district, West Bengal, India

Abstract: on their eigenvalue viz., agro-climatic factor, infrastructural and educational factors, hydrological factor, demographic factor, and pedological factors. All the p-values of the correlation matrix are < 0.05, meaning all the relationships are valid and significant. This research also demonstrates the spatial analysis of data using GIS technology. The western part of the study area has been affected by the high influence of all factors due to the presence of plateau fringe and associated low productivity. The … Show more

“…Mentors who do not share their WOC mentees’ minoritized identities may often ignore or are simply unaware of how multiple interlocked historically oppressed social categories, such as race, gender, culture, working class, and sexual orientation, intersect to create unique forms of disadvantages for their mentees (Brown & Montoya, 2020). Such a lack of understanding of their WOC mentees’ lived realities can lead mentors to socialize their mentees into toxic organizational cultures that do not value their unique identities (Ghosh & Chaudhuri, 2022). For instance, WOC may be forced to sacrifice their gender, race, or cultural identities and distance themselves from marginalized communities in an attempt to dispel stereotypes that challenge their competencies as professionals and leaders, while conforming to gendered and racialized standards of these roles to gain advancement (DeRue & Ashford, 2010; Dickens et al, 2018; Manongsong & Ghosh, 2021; McGee, 2016).…”

“…The region's reliance on agriculture and the diverse agroclimatic conditions prevalent across different areas primarily contribute to these disparities. The challenging terrain and soil composition in the western part, situated within the periphery of the Chotonagpur Plateau, significantly impact agricultural productivity [34], leading to heightened levels of income poverty. This emphasis on unidimensional poverty underscores its critical role in understanding the economic dimensions of deprivation and highlights its importance in crafting targeted interventions to alleviate poverty within the region.…”

“…This sub-division, located in the western part of Birbhum district, encompasses diverse physiographical features, with its western section extending from the Chota Nagpur Plateau. Agricultural activities in this region are constrained by agroecological conditions, resulting in heightened poverty levels compared to the eastern part of the district [34]. Hence, this specific area has been selected as the research site.…”

“…Multifactorial logistic regression and generalized linear models were used to analyze the risk factors associated with severe PTB and an increase in the number of infected lung fields in tuberculosis patients. The R -square of the model is used to indicate the percentage of variation in the severity of PTB or the number of pulmonary fields infected with tuberculosis explained jointly by nutritional or immune function indicators ( 11 , 12 ). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of single indicators and combined tests.…”
