Exploitation of Business Models for Deep Renovation

Abstract: In this workshop, we discussed the exploitation experiences gathered in some relevant H2020 projects on deep renovation: TripleA-reno, ProGETonE, P2Endure, 4rinEU, STUNNING, and TURNkey Retrofit. Directives and practical insights that support the experimentation with exploitation strategies in EU-funded projects will be elaborated as outcome of the workshop.

“…The lessons learnt within the nine case studies and the references given above point out the need for more applicable business models to the district scale. This broader approach requires a facilitator, a clearly defined and mandated agent to coordinate and lead in a collaboratively way all the processes with a district perspective (D'Oca et al, 2019;Häkkinen, Ala-Juusela, Mäkeläinen, & Jung, 2019).…”

“…This also included a technical offer, help with finding financial support, but went even further and provided on-site coordination of works and quality assurance. Furthermore, TURNKEY RETROFIT also developed a digital platform for homeowners (D'Oca et al, 2019;Desmaris et al, 2019;Volt et al, 2019).…”

“…Lastly, we briefly refer to TripleA-reno (TripleA-reno, 2018), which refers to Affordable, Acceptable, and Attractive renovation, with users in the centre. In this project, a gamified platform was developed to provide users of deep renovation projects with attractive, understandable, and personalized information (D'Oca et al, 2019). Another relevant EU-funded project in this respect is COHERENO, which ran from 2013 to 2016 (see, e.g., Mlecnik et al, 2012Mlecnik et al, , 2019Straub, 2016).…”

“…Numerous scientific studies [12][13][14] concentrate on the technical aspects of building renovation for energy efficiency; with respect to this achievement, the understanding of the renovation process as a whole and the adoption of a holistic approach for its effective deployment assumes growing importance [15][16][17]. To trigger DERP, technical aspects form only a part of a more complex roadmap to higher energy efficiency [18][19][20]. Indeed, despite the potential savings obtained by combining multiple interventions on envelope and systems with RES (Renewable Energy Sources) integration, their concrete achievement often fails due to softer reasons such as a lack of knowledge regarding the cost-effectiveness of the energy-performance improvements as well as of their benefits [20].…”
