BACKGROUND: In today’s digital era, the development of technology and information is so fast not only in the world of medicine and medical equipment but also in the model of health services so that many e-services are found, such as Alodokter and Halodoc. As well Internet of Things (IoT)-based technology IoT makes the method that can be used for remote services easy to reach and low cost, this is very significant in helping home care services in the elderly. AIM: The goal of this research is to develop the design of telehealthcare based on IoT, especially the vital signs of monitoring for the early detection of diseases in the elderly through health-care services. METHODS: This type of research is experimental with the design of equipment design using IoT based with parameters of a biomedical temperature sensor, heart rate, and SpO2 sensor for monitoring health elderly integrated into smartphone applications through programming Arduino ESP 32 microcontroller as a transmitter. RESULTS: The results of this study consist of two stages, including first determining the accuracy value of biomedical sensor data results by measuring the error factor, namely, for beats per minute sensor, data have a deviation error of 1.6 and SpO2 deviation error of 0.25 and temperature deviation error of 0.16 with a confidence level of 0.05% and second comparing parameter values to standard values using t-test tests with p > 0.05 results means that there is no significant difference between parameter values and standard values. CONCLUSION: The results of this study can be concluded that the physiological parameters, such as spo2, bpm and body temperature can be used for health monitoring in the elderly, and it is hoped that the results of this research design can be used for early detection of the elderly for routine health checks using a smartphone application.

In recent times, the World has taken a critical blow from the novel Coronavirus. Moreover, with its research ongoing and multiple variants emerging, uncertainty is on the rise. Lung damage and cardiac issues occur during and post recovery which is why there is a requirement to constantly monitor the patient’s vitals. This also applies to patients suffering from other lung diseases and heart conditions. They need immediate attention to avoid complications and further deterioration in their health. The proposed system aims to do so by observing the health parameters such as oxygen saturation in blood and heartbeat constantly and making the data available for the user by displaying it. In case of abnormality, it alerts the person related to the patient about the developments and relays the required information to help like symptom details and the patient’s location, this ensures that actions are taken quickly. Simultaneously, it provides assistance in breathing during the interlude till professional help arrives and the patient receives the necessary treatment. This is achieved with a combination of sensors, modules and other components integrated with a microcontroller as well as the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT) using a web service.

Cardio Vascular Diseases (CVD) is the leading cause of death globally and is increasing at an alarming rate, according to the American Heart Association's Heart Attack and Stroke Statistics-2021. This increase has been further exacerbated because of the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, thereby increasing the pressure on existing healthcare resources. Smart and Connected Health (SCH) is a viable solution for the prevalent healthcare challenges. It can reshape the course of healthcare to be more strategic, preventive, and custom-designed, making it more effective with value-added services. This research endeavors to classify state-of-the-art SCH technologies via a thorough literature review and analysis to comprehensively define SCH features and identify the enabling technology-related challenges in SCH adoption. We also propose an architectural model that captures the technological aspect of the SCH solution, its environment, and its primary involved stakeholders. It serves as a reference model for SCH acceptance and implementation. We reflected the COVID-19 case study illustrating how some countries have tackled the pandemic differently in terms of leveraging the power of different SCH technologies, such as big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, robotics, blockchain, and mobile applications. In combating the pandemic, SCH has been used efficiently at different stages such as disease diagnosis, virus detection, individual monitoring, tracking, controlling, and resource allocation. Furthermore, this review highlights the challenges to SCH acceptance, as well as the potential research directions for better patient-centric healthcare.
