Occupational risk assessments are complex tasks, requiring substantial technical knowledge and a keen awareness of the environment and its systems. Workers rely on safety leadership and personnel to protect themselves, colleagues, and the environment. Hazards such as noise, radiation, and air quality can pose acute and chronic effects to exposed workers.Training workers how to assess these hazards can also create exposure scenarios for the trainees due to the risks associated with the hazards.AssessVR is a simulation tool developed to support training and education of students and safety professionals in hazard identification and risk assessment. By utilizing data output from the simulator, students using this tool can engage in safety analysis processes such as noise hazard recognition, evaluation strategy design, and exposure risk assessment.A group of gamers was brought together to gather feedback and suggestions on improving the gamification aspects of the simulation. The focus group played the game and discussed a series of questions about the game mechanics, usability, and how engaged and entertained they felt. The focus group results demonstrated that the usability of the simulator setting needed improvement, and they suggested adding a task system to increase user engagement. Changes were made to the simulation based on the feedback from the focus group.
