Exploring continuance usage intention toward open government data technologies: an integrated approach

Abstract: Purpose Open government data (OGD) is a comparatively new field in e-government and the factors influencing its continuance use by citizens have not been extensively explored. A better understanding of these factors can help the government to articulate strategies and policies that can advance the acceptance and use of OGD technologies. Thus, this paper aims to empirically determine the predictors influencing the continuance usage intention of OGD technologies. Design/methodology/approach Following an empiri… Show more

“…Among the direct findings may be attested the positively significant implications for PE-BI, SQ-BI, DQ-BI and TR-BI. Thus, findings from the present study are in sync with the previous research (Husin et al , 2019; Islam et al , 2021; Lnenicka et al , 2022; Talukder et al , 2019; Wirtz et al , 2019; Zuiderwijk et al , 2015). For instance, the positively significant relationship for performance expectancy–behavioral intention is implicit in the users’ perceiving OGD to be important for their academic/work performance.…”

“…Furthermore, invoking the diffusion of innovations (DOI) theory, variables such as user perception of functional value, compatibility, security concerns and stereotypes were also empirically investigated (Weerakkody et al , 2017). Contextually, the adapted UTAUT framework was used in Latvian, Czech Republic and Indian contexts (Lnenicka et al , 2022) as also the Bangladesh context (Islam et al , 2021) for drawing inferences regarding OGD adoption and usage propensities. Finally, there are studies on the OGD quality dimensions that determine the OGD engagement propensities of the concerned user groups (Alexopoulos and Saxena, 2023; Matheus et al , 2012; Parung et al , 2018).…”

“…In the case of UK-based PTI across genders visa-vis OGD adoption citizens, invoking the DOI theory, it was found that OGD adoption and usage propensities were a function of variables such as user perception of functional value, compatibility, security and privacy concerns (Weerakkody et al, 2017). Finally, the adapted UTAUT model was used to understand OGD adoption and usage propensity in the cases of Latvia, Czech Republic and India (Lnenicka et al, 2022) as also in the case of Bangladesh (Islam et al, 2021).…”

“…Subsequently, the availability of FCs such as data manipulation tools, platforms and data access points is likely to simulate the actual use of OGD. Capacity building has been on the development agenda for years, taking the form of institutional, individual and infrastructure interventions (Islam et al , 2021). However, capacity development programmes are frequently focused on the needs of donor-funded projects, limited in time or scope and not organized around government-led interventions with long-term impact.…”
