Exploring Jasmonates in the Hormonal Network of Drought and Salinity Responses

Abstract: Present and future food security is a critical issue compounded by the consequences of climate change on agriculture. Stress perception and signal transduction in plants causes changes in gene or protein expression which lead to metabolic and physiological responses. Phytohormones play a central role in the integration of different upstream signals into different adaptive outputs such as changes in the activity of ion-channels, protein modifications, protein degradation, and gene expression. Phytohormone biosy… Show more

“…inoculated with the necrotrophic fungus Grosmannia clavigera (Arango‐Velez et al, ). Obviously, the phytohormone defence network of pines shows similar responses to drought stress (Riemann et al, ) and invasion by fungi such as S. sapinea , which is in line with our hypothesis (iii).…”

“…AOC regulates a crucial step in JA biosynthesis, and the JA derivative, MeJA, alleviates salt stress in soybean (Yoon et al, 2009). The constitutive expression of AOCs can confer salinity tolerance to plants such as tobacco cell lines (Yamada et al, 2002) and wheat (Zhao et al, 2014), and references for the involvement of JA in environmental stresses can be found in Riemann et al (2015). In light of these findings, it is highly possible that overexpression of MeAOC4 contributes to increased tolerance to salt stress under SAHA treatment in cassava.…”

“…In some studies, JA seems to improve drought tolerance while in others it has been reported to cause a reduction in growth and yield (Riemann et al, 2015). Interestingly, JA was one of the five metabolites contributing to the discrimination between TOL and SUS/INT under mild stress.…”
