Exploring the Impact of Air Transport on Economic Growth: New Evidence from Australia

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all sectors of the tourism industry, particularly air transportation. However, air transport remains an important contributor to economic growth globally. Thus, this study examines whether air transport (a proxy for tourism) stimulates economic growth to validate the air-transportation-led growth hypothesis (ALGH) in the Australian context. To conduct the study, we analyse the asymmetric long-run and short-run impacts of the air passengers carried (a proxy for tourism) on the… Show more

“…Furthermore, we acquire that banking development advancements (FD-POS) accept a bigger appulse on CO2 emissions than banking development setbacks (FD-NEG). These investigations abutment Khanal et al (2022) findings. According to Wang et al (2012c), a one-unit abatement in technology alteration (TT_NEG) after-effects in a 0.860 abatement in CO2 emissions, admitting a one-unit acceleration in technology alteration (TT_POS) after-effects in a 0.883 access (R. Zhao et al, 2015).…”

“…The CO2 will drop by 0.647 units, for instance, if green investment increases by one unit. According to empirical research, the government must make rational decisions and retain short-term control over all factors in order to provide accurate estimations for computations, which eventually become long-term obstacles (Khanal, Rahman, Khanam, & Velayutham, 2022).…”

“…Despite this significant development, the air transport sector faces significant problems, such as excessive fuel consumption, higher fuel prices, increase in air traffic, competition, economic crisis, aviation emissions, safety, design, and operational chal-lenges [2]. Air transport also makes an important contribution to economic growth by creating opportunities for employment and increasing gross domestic product (GDP) [3], [4]. However, it should be noted that air transport is an extremely sensitive mode of transport, as confirmed by various crisis situations that have led to a decline in passenger traffic [5].…”
